Feast of Sant'Edigio in Linguaglossa
The Feast of Sant'Edigio in Linguaglossa is celebrated in the month of June and in September.
The feast of June commemorates the miraculous event that occurred in 1923: a lava flow, which had already destroyed the village of Catena, was directed towards Linguaglossa. The faithful then decided to carry the simulacrum of the Saint in procession through the streets of the city and, miraculously, the casting stopped. Since then, every year on June 17, Sant'Edigio is carried in procession through the streets of the city.
The patronal feast of Sant'Edigio takes place in the month of August. The festivities in honor of the Patron Saint begin, about a week before, with the ceremony of handing over the keys of the city to the Patron Saint and the ceremony of the unveiling of the simulacrum.
The culminating moment of the celebration it is the solemn procession of the Patron Saint through the village streets. At the end of the festivities, the simulacrum of the Saint is brought back to the chapel accompanied by the traditional cantata of the faithful.
