Church of SS. Trinity in Montelepre

The Church of the SS. Trinità a Montelepre, also known as the Church of the Fallen, is one of the buildings of worship in the village, the place where the Urn of the Dead Christ is prepared on Good Friday.
It was built at the end of the eighteenth century, as the chapel of the adjoining Collegio di Maria, at the behest of the benefactor Castrenze Di Bella who accessed the church directly from his home via a staircase. In 1927 the church was dedicated to the fallen of the First World War, and later also to those of the Second.
The church is flanked by civil buildings, its rectangular façade is surmounted by a small central bell tower. The entrance door is surmounted by a stained glass window depicting a soldier and the following epigraph: Beati mortui qui in Domino et pro Patria moriuntur (Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord and for their homeland).< br>The single nave interior preserves a wooden statue of the Virgin from 1840 by Valerio Villareale, and two marble plaques where the names of the 53 fallen in the two wars are engraved.
