The interdonato lemon is a variety of Sicilian lemon plant obtained by grafting between lemon and cedar. The idea came around 1860 to Colonel Giovanni Interdonato, a passionate citrus grower who made about 200 grafts in his own citrus groves in Alí Terme in the province of Messina. Limone Interdonato Messina Jonica PGI has a very fine and smooth skin, so much so that it is also called Limone fino. This Sicilian Lemon, born from the grafting of a lemon marzia on a bitter orange, is a natural hybrid fruit with a low content of citric acid and a greater amount of ascorbic acid. This feature makes the Lemon Interdonato monto sweeter and less acid so that it is much appreciated and consumed by the English in tea and is very popular in the kitchen because it does not cover the flavors and smells of the dishes, enhancing their taste.
