The statue of San Giorgio Megalomartire of Piana degli Albanesi is the only one in which the horse is not white but brown. Traditionally, in fact, San Giorgio, being a nobleman, is always represented riding a white horse.
The work was created in 1832 by Jeromus Bagnasco and it is said that it was he who decided to color the horse's coat brown to following a dream. It is said that St. George appeared to him in a dream asking to be represented on a brown horse, and not on a white horse like on all the other simulacrums, because his will was to be represented as an ordinary person.
Another peculiarity of the statue of St. George is wearing the brezi, the main ornament of the traditional costume of Piana degli Albanesi.
The simulacrum of San Giorgio Megalomartire is kept in a chapel in the Church of San Giorgio and in April, on the occasion of the Feast of San Giorgio Megalomartire, is carried on the shoulders in procession through the streets of the village.
