Things to do, attractions, interesting facts

Solarino

Area: Siracusa surroundings

Solarino rises in the Val d'Anapo, the extreme eastern offshoot of the Iblei Mountains which slope down towards the Syracuse plain.
Although this territory has been inhabited since prehistoric times, the first certain news about Solarino dates back to 1296 when it is counted as baronial fiefdom. Before then, history merges with tradition and sees the figure of San Paolo preaching in these places during the three-day stop that the latter made in Syracuse in the spring of the year 61.
Just as the history of Solarino is linked to the figure of Saint Paul, the main sites of interest are also linked to the tradition and cult of the Patron Saint and are known as Pauline places.
