Canicattini Bagni: city of liberty
Things to do, attractions, interesting facts
State: SR - Area: Siracusa surroundings
Canicattini Bagni, set in the center of the Hyblean territory, is the city of Liberty and Music.
Its history is very ancient and has known the presence of residential areas since the Neolithic age. Following the arrival of the Greek gods, the city assumes a strategic position, an obligatory passage between the city of Syracuse and its sub-colonies of Akrai and Kasmenai, and this determines a major development. The cultural and economic continuity between the late antiquity and the early Middle Ages has allowed for a rich flowering of numerous agricultural villages in the area. The foundation of the current town dates back to 1682 with the obtaining of the licentia populandi by the Marquis Mario Daniele Partexano.
Canicattini Bagni today boasts a historic center that contains architectural beauties that recall the style of the 'Art Nouveau, and dominates a vast plain dotted with olive trees and intersected by quarries that create a scenic natural landscape.
