Sortino

Sortino, a wonderful Baroque town, is located in the Iblei Mountains near the Pantalica rock necropolis and the Anapo river.
It was totally rebuilt following the terrible earthquake of 1693 which completely destroyed the ancient town. During this rebuilding it was enriched with important buildings that place it among the most important examples of a Baroque city in Sicily.
Sortino is known as the city of honey: local beekeeping boasts a millenary and here different and precious varieties of honey are produced.
Another typical gastronomic product of the city of Sortino is the pizzolo di Sortino, a sort of covered pizza with a unique consistency and taste.
