Carlentini is a village that stands on the edge of the plain of Catania, in an area surrounded by citrus groves, close to the Pancali and Iblei mountains.
Its history is intimately connected to nearby Lentini: following the 1542 earthquake that devastated Lentini , the fortress city of Carleontini arose, i.e. the Lentini founded by Charles V. A great fire in 1561 and the devastating earthquake in the Val di Noto in 1693 led to a complete reconstruction of the ancient town.
The city has an urban layout with an orthogonal layout that enhances the valuable architectural elements located in it. The numerous religious buildings and the remains of the old Spanish fortifications bear witness to its history.
