Marineo is a small village located in the Palermo area, halfway between the hinterland and the coast.
The town is characterized by the imposing cliff that rises behind it, known as La Rocca or < em>Toma di Polifemo.
The first traces of settlement in this area date back to the 8th century BC. Then it was inhabited by the Phoenicians, the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Arabs, the Normans and the Swabians. The current town dates back to 1550 and was born thanks to the licentia populandi obtained by the feudal lord Francesco Beccadelli granted by Charles V.
Today the rich history of this village is enclosed in its castle, its monuments, in its archaeological museum and in the archaeological areas distributed throughout its territory.
