Things to do, attractions, interesting facts

Altavilla Milicia

Provincia: PA - Area: Palermo surroundings

Altavilla Milicia stands on a hill, in a splendid panoramic position, and like a large terrace, overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The birth of the village dates back to the beginning of the seventeenth century at the behest of the Beccadelli family of Bologna who purchased the fiefdoms of Mìlicia.
The urban layout was curated by Mariano Smiriglio, architect and sculptor who created the urn of Santa Rosalia and of the sculptural apparatus of the Quattro Canti of Palermo, which developed the city around a pre-existing fortified baglio to which the cannamela mill was annexed.
