Balestrate is a renowned tourist resort for summer holidays in Sicily that overlooks the Gulf of Castellammare.
The first nucleus of the current Balestrate dates back to around 1600 and developed near a tuna fishery, now lost.
Balestrate is renowned for its wide expanses of sandy beach interrupted only by the town's tourist port and the mouth of the Jato river.
