Motta Sant'Anastasia
Things to do, attractions, interesting facts
State: CT - Area: Catania and Etna
Motta Sant'Anastasia is a small medieval village located in the Simeto valley, at the foot of the Etna volcano.
It owes its structure to its flourishing Norman period when Ruggero D'Altavilla had a tower built there, which still stands out in the town , to guard the entrance to the plain of Catania in defense of the Norman possessions from the continuous Saracen invasions.
The presence of the remains of the defense and housing structures, together with the characteristics of the territory, highlight the medieval typicality of the town.
