Gagliano Castelferrato is a village in the Sicilian hinterland perched on a steep cliff.
It has a very ancient history: founded by the Sicani in 1900 BC, it was an important center in Roman times, and reached its maximum splendor under Arab domination, a period during which its impregnable castle, the Iron Castle, was built.
Today Gagliano Castelferrato still retains its medieval layout with narrow winding streets and houses huddled together.
