Scordia

Area: Central Sicily

Scordia is a town located in the Sicilian hinterland.
It boasts an ancient history: the archaeological evidence present in the surroundings of the town demonstrate human attendance in the area since the Bronze and Iron Ages and then in the Greek-Sicilian, Roman and Byzantine periods. It was the seat of a lordship of the Kingdom of Sicily, during the fourteenth century the farmhouse declined until it disappeared completely. The refoundation of the center in the modern age is due to Antonio Branciforte, the first prince of Scordia.
Its historic center is full of important civil buildings and religious architecture, witnesses of its rich history.
Today Scordia is an important citrus center of Sicily. Of particular value is the production of Sicilian oranges.
